Sears and Kmart Help Raise Over $300,000 for Military Families

Customers and associates lend a hand and a heart to servicemen and women and their families

This Valentine's season, Sears and Kmart customers and associates showed their heart for military families by donating more than $300,000 towards the "Have a Heart for Military Families" program. The initiative, held in stores from February 9-11, will benefit Fisher House, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing "a home away from home" for injured military members and their families.

"This generous donation comes at a critical time for our organization," said David A. Coker, President of Fisher House Foundation. "Last year, our 37 Fisher Houses were home to more than 10,000 service members and with the growing number of casualties, the need for additional homes is urgent. We plan to build 21 additional Fisher Houses over the next four years, primarily to assist injured servicemen and women and their families. We are thankful for this very timely and needed support from Sears and Kmart."

"Sears and Kmart have a longstanding commitment to those in the military, and we feel privileged to have assisted the troops and their families through this initiative," said Aylwin Lewis, president and CEO of Sears Holdings Corporation. "We thank our customers for opening their hearts to help military families stay close to their loved ones when they need it most."
