With One Weekend Left, Sears Sweetens Holiday Deals

Retailer Provides Insight On Top Gifts This Holiday Season

With only one weekend remaining before Christmas, Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) has added a new promotion to the great sales already planned for what may be the biggest shopping weekend of the year.

Sears has sweetened the deal for shoppers this Saturday by offering a $10 gift card to the first 100 customers at each of its full-line stores across the country. The first 25 customers to visit a Sears Hardware or Dealer store also will receive a $10 gift card. Sears stores will open at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Sears will offer an extra 10 percent off almost everything in the store from 7:00 - 10:00 a.m.(1) Customers who don't plan an early shopping trip will still find savings on a variety of gift ideas, including a Koss progressive scan DVD/CD player for $29.99 after mail-in rebate, a Craftsman Laser Trac circular saw $59.99, or a Sony 46-inch wide-screen Hi-Scan projection TV for $1,499.99.

Top Gifts This Holiday Season

Last-minute shoppers have more than just a financial advantage -- they also can take their cue from the most popular gift products and categories at Sears so far this season.

Home entertainment tops the list for the biggest share of Sears' holiday shopper spending, led by projection televisions, DVD/VCR players and plasma/LCD televisions. Tools and tool storage are a close second with tool sets, drills and laser-equipped levels and measuring tools at the top of shopping lists.

Gift cards have emerged as one of the most popular holiday items in the first half of the season. Sears gift cards have no fees or expiration dates and come in a variety of designs for the holidays, including a new card that doubles as a photo frame. Customers can personalize the card by inserting a family photo or a picture of the gift intended for the recipient.

Other fast-growing gift products include digital cameras, camcorders and portable music devices. Denim leads the way in apparel purchases for the family this season.
