Sears Names Liska Chief Financial Officer

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) has named Paul J. Liska to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective June 1. Liska, 45, succeeds Jeffrey N. Boyer, who has left the company. In addition to finance, Liska will be responsible for the company's information technology activities. Liska will report to Sears Chairman and CEO Alan J. Lacy.

Most recently, Liska was executive vice president and chief financial officer since 1997 for The St. Paul Companies, Inc., a $10 billion property and casualty insurance company, where his responsibilities included all financial functions and investment activities for their $27 billion portfolio as well as overseeing the information technology group.

Previously, Liska was president and CEO of Specialty Foods Corp., which he joined in 1994 as chief financial officer. Liska's career also includes senior finance and information systems positions with Kraft General Foods, The Quaker Oats Company and Baxter Travenol/American Hospital Supply Corp.

"Paul's broad experience in consumer goods and services businesses and his passion for results will be of tremendous benefit to us," said Lacy.

Liska is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds an MBA degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
